Changing The Clock Speed On Your Computer

Change the Clock Speed of Your Computer

Everyone wants a faster computer. If you play lots of computer games, watch videos on your computer or like to listen to music, these applications use a lot of computer resources. You may sometimes find that your computer can't keep up with the demand. Well there is a little known secret that can help your computer keep up with this extra workload, it is called Overclocking.

Overclocking is making your computer chip run faster then manufacturer recommendations. Although it is not advised by the manufacturer, the vast majority have of overclocked computers run fine with no problems. There three main ways to overclock your computer.

The easiest way to over clock your computer is to change your BIOS settings. While this setting is not universal, many computers do have this capability. When the computer screen boots up access the BIOS screen to make your changes. There should be a screen that asks to adjust the CPU speed. Just make the adjustments and you are set, it's as easy as pie. However, since some computers don't have this option you will have to open up the computer case and manually make some adjustments.

There are two other ways to speed up your computer chip, the bus settings and multiplier settings. Bus settings usually come in speeds of 66 MHz and 100 MHz. By increasing the speed of the bus, you are in affect increasing the speed of computer chip.

Multiplier settings are on the mother board. They are usually identified by X1, X1.5, X2, X2.5, X3, X3.5. If you see that your computer is set to X2, you can make the speed faster to X2.5 or X3.

Remember be careful when making changes to your computer due to the fact that the manufacturer does not recommend you changing the speed, but if you feel the need, the need for speed, who is going to stop you.
